Digital vs. Physical Vision Board : Which one do you prefer?

Which kind of vision board is more effective? Both, it doesn’t matter which one you make. Other than effectiveness, there are few criteria you should consider when you decide whether you will make a physical or digital board.

Traditionally vision boards were crafted on Physical board using images and words from magazines, souvenirs or trinklets etc. Now we can make Digital board easily with apps and software.

I have tried both. For the first few years, I had a vision board stuck on the inside of my cupboard (I was not comfortable with showing my vision to anyone).

I kind of grew out of it. It wears out before the end of next year. So when I saw the concept of digital vision board, I jumped the wagon.

Let us discuss the strengths of both digital and physical vision boards so you can choose which one is more suitable for you.

Why Physical vision board is better –

Hands on creation :

The whole fun in creation of physical board is the satisfaction of doing a beautiful board with your own hands.

Cutting, pasting, curating the layout, arranging images and words all by yourself makes it interesting. Scorching for images in the magazines, buying or printing stickers of your choice gives you deeper emotional connection towards our goals.

Visual Impact:

Having a physical board prominently displayed can serve as a constant reminder. If you can place it in a wall where you see it before you sleep and first thing in the morning, it will elevate the power of manifestation of such a board.

Its visibility in your space can trigger subconscious motivation and focus.

Customization and Creativity:

With physical boards, the freedom to customize is limitless. You can add textures, colors, and tangible elements, enhancing the creative process.

Adding stickers, tickets, souvenirs, and other small items to the board took personal connection and creativity to another level.

Worn-out Physical boards :

My personal experience with physical boards was not great as pictures would peel at edges or trinkets would drop off from the board. The board would seem dusty or worn-out at the end of the year.

Probably framing the board would have been better idea. Nowadays we get deeper frames where we can add layers of items.

Now let us see other side of the coin.

What are advantages of Digital Vision Boards?

Accessibility and Portability:

You can access digital board from anywhere with or even without an internet connection. They’re easily portable and can be viewed on various devices.

I display my vision board as home wallpaper on my mobile. There are also affirmations as lock-screen wallpaper on my mobile. I keep changing these affirmations. Sometimes I design them myself in Canva to my liking. Otherwise, I take a screenshot of affirmations from internet.

It is very easy to make your own mobile wallpaper on Canva. Choose “mobile wallpaper template”. There are ready made templates with beautiful colours, frames and backgrounds. All you have to do is add photos, words, affirmations to this template. Canva has its own database of photos you can choose from. The dimensions of such wallpapers are exactly as per your mobile.

If you screenshot the picture and use it as wallpaper, at times, part of the affirmation or picture gets cropped. So designing your own wallpaper is better option.

So you can carry digital board with you all the time as your gadget wallpaper or can store in your laptop / desktop/ mobile.

Organization and Editability :

It is easy to edit digital vision board. You can rearrange, update, and modify your images as your goals change over period. It is difficult to change the pictures that are glued to a physical board.

Vast pool of images :

Online platforms provide access to a wide array of images, quotes, and multimedia resources. It becomes easy to search for images that exactly match your dreams.

I edited picture of my family and included it along with a famous monument in the city of my dreams. This is part of my Digital vision board. How easy it is isn’t it!!

Effectiveness is dependent on personal preference.

The effectiveness of digital versus physical vision boards often depends on personal preferences and individual working styles.

Some love the tangible nature of physical boards, while others find the flexibility and accessibility of digital versions more appealing.

Ask yourself what do you prefer.

Maximizing Effectiveness: Combine both the worlds.

Why not enjoy the best of both worlds? Some find value in creating a physical board initially to engage the senses and emotions, later translating it into a digital format for ongoing accessibility and organization.

This combination allows for a dynamic and comprehensive approach to goal visualization. I haven’t tried it but it will be fun to print the final image of your digital vision board and add physical elements to it. Doesn’t it sound mind-blowing?
