My challenges as a blogger and how I overcome them.

Blogging is an interesting craft – it’s about giving voice to your thoughts and journaling your experiences. In this blog post, I share my experience as a blogger, the challenges I face on continual basis and how I overcome them.

In 2017, when I started my health and fitness journey, my friends had many queries regarding my experience. I would often be approached by strangers to know how to lose weight and sustain such weight loss. This eventually gave life to this blog “Evolve for Better Life” in 2020.

As my interests evolved from fitness to other areas of self-development, I included them in my blog. The journey has been slow yet steady. As I look back at this journey, I realize that I did not do as much as I intended. As a working mom, there is surely limitation of time. Apart from time, there are many other constraints that leads to inconsistent blogging.

Challenges as a blogger and how I overcome them.

The whole point of this blog is to share my experience, so let me give you peek into my challenges as a blogger.

Be a genuine voice

The whole idea of blogging is to share your own views and opinions, to share your experiences including wins, mistakes and learnings. So I need to have an attitude of bare it all.

This is not always possible. I am not comfortable to share all the incidents that lead to my learnings in my journey. At times, it is also about people around me and the conversations that I have with them.

Do I have right to publicize the conversations I have with others? It would mean I am publicizing their views and opinions, their shortcomings or strengths.

It is important to be a genuine voice and share everything without any inhibitions. However that is not always possible. It may at times seem wrong or impractical too.

This has lead to writing many generic blogs which seem to lack soul. I am trying my best in my new blogposts to share as much as possible without affecting others or my privacy.

Managing time and being consistent

Most of my blogposts have more than 2500 words. It takes me about 8 hours to research, write and edit a blog post. The time spent in social media for promotion is additional and may range from 2-5 hours for every post.

As I am working full time and love to be spend time with family, devoting such big blocks of time for blogging becomes difficult.

I have many incomplete blog posts. As the gap between writing increases, I feel bored to continue with these incomplete posts and start with new topic. All this has led to inconsistent posting.

To counter this, I have started writing smaller blog post of less then 1000 words. Also I do not promote in all platforms now. I only post on Instagram about my new posts. These two steps have enabled me to post often.

I hope I shall be writing longer blogs eventually.

Technical know-how

I am not technically sound when it comes to managing website, social media and SEO. I have taken blogging course of more than 100 hours to understand about setting up and running a blog and Digital marketing in general.

But there are always so many changes happening continuously on google and social media platforms that it becomes difficult to be updated with all changes. Every few weeks, I have to learn and make updates in website, backend or social media platforms. This consumes lot of time and requires continuous efforts.

Managing social media

I have Instagram, Facebook page, Facebook group and Pinterest account for this blog. It becomes very overwhelming to publish on all platforms about every post. I also have email marketing set up for subscribers.

All platforms have different requirements in terms of dimensions and kind of posts. So it becomes very overwhelming to manage everything.

For a very long time, I used to write blogpost but not publish it on any social media. I really do not have time and energy to do it regularly. So now I have settled with one platform i.e Instagram.

At the hindsight, Instagram is not the best platform as I cannot link my blogpost. But I really wonder if facebook has any active users. So here I am, again confused about the appropriate social media platform.

Continuous creativity or ideas

Writing blogs and creating social media post require lot of creativity. It is mentally tiring at times to write continuously. Words do not flow that easily. There are many times I am stuck as I cannot find appropriate words to express my views.

Chatgpt is a huge help in these cases now. Reframing or rephrasing of sentences has become easier. AI has taken care of captions for social media. It has eased the part of writing which I do not enjoy doing myself.

SEO requirements

Knowledge of Search engine optimization is essential requisite for a successful blogger. I have done course on it and understand it to a large extent. But I still have a lot to learn about SEO.

SEO requirements have to be followed for each blog post too. Sometimes I need to compromise between the way I would like to write and SEO requirements.

I let go of SEO requirements at times when I am sure that as a blogger I am doing justice to my blog post and interests of audience. It is about choosing heart over mind.

Imposter syndrome and writer’s block

In all this chaos, I do not realize when imposter syndrome creeps in. My decision to write a blog post but not promote it on social media was outcome of imposter syndrome. I am a confident person and usually not fazed by other’s opinion or “log kya kahenge” thoughts. But I was uncomfortable in posting my blog posts on Instagram.

Writers block is when you have thoughts and ideas in your mind but you are not able to translate it into article. I personally feel if I do not write regularly, I face writer’s block. Words do not flow smoothly.

To counter both of these, I have taken up 30 days blogging challenge. I try to publish 1 blog post every day of less then 1000 words and promote it on Instagram with 1 promotion post only. No matter what!!!. My decision to post is not affected by likes on the instagram post or views on the article.

I have freed my actions from the burden of its outcome.

I hope that this brings consistency in my habit of blogging.

I have realized one important lesson over the years, discipline brings consistency. So this is my attempt to bring consistency in blogging. Hope you have enjoyed reading about my journey of blogging,  the challenges I face and how I try to overcome them.

I still have not reached the point where I would be concerned about number of views, statistics etc. I am sure that would be starting point of new challenges in my journey.
